Quarterbacks litter the early 2024 Heisman Trophy odds based on the best college football odds from our best sports betting sites.

The college football season is still more than four months away, but programs across the country are gearing up for spring games with their eyes set on qualifying for the inaugural 12-team playoff.

Naturally, that means there'll be more teams playing relevant football later in the season than ever before and it could really shake up both the college football playoff odds and college football championship odds. It also means that there could be even more Heisman candidates playing meaningful games into late November, making this one of the more interesting Heisman Trophy races of the last decade.

While there's no clear runaway preseason favorite for the award, our best sports betting apps have a handful of returning SEC quarterbacks topping the oddsboard.

Here's a look at the 2024 Heisman Trophy odds market (odds via our best college football betting sites).

Favorites to win 2024 Heisman Trophy

Carson Beck (+900 via DraftKings)

Without a clear-cut top quarterback returning to college football this season, it looks like Carson Beck will be the Heisman darling for now. He's viewed as a potential top pick by the 2025 NFL Draft odds and he helped lead Georgia to a 13-1 record in his first season as a starter.

While he's not as dynamic of a QB as Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, the last two Heisman winners, Beck is an efficient pocket passer and helped the Bulldogs score the fifth-most points per game in the country last season (40.1).

It helps to be a household name during a Heisman campaign, and Beck is one of the more well-known passers in the sport, plus he's playing for the SEC Championship odds favorite. And even though he's losing Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey to the NFL, Georgia is still obviously full of talent.

Kirby Smart added Trevor Etienne, Colbie Young, and London Humphreys in the transfer portal and receivers Dominic Lovett, Dillon Bell, and Rara Thomas will all be back in Athens.

Will Howard (+1500 via DraftKings)

In the transfer portal era, many of the biggest names at QB have transferred at least once during their career. Add former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard to that list after he departed Manhattan, Kansas for Columbus, Ohio.

Set to be Ryan Day's new signal caller, Howard might be in the best position of any transfer in the country to rise in the Heisman race as the QB of the Big Ten Championship odds favorite, as Day has been helping Buckeyes QBs put up gaudy numbers dating back to 2017.

Since then, Day has had three different QBs (Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields, C.J. Stroud) finish in the top three in Heisman voting. With Howard coming off a season with the Wildcats where he finished with 33 total touchdowns, he's poised to put up even better numbers with the talent around him at Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are tied with Georgia, Texas, and Oregon for having the highest college football projected win totals and return several receivers and running backs with NFL futures.

Shedeur Sanders (+4500 via DraftKings)

A popular "sleeper" in Heisman race will likely be Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, although I'm not so sure you can call him a sleeper. He's one of the biggest names in college football and a QB who some believe would have been among the top passers in the 2024 NFL Draft.

After following his dad Deion from Jackson State to Boulder last offseason, Sanders proved to be the main reason the Buffaloes were able to go 4-8 with a pretty much brand new roster.

With the Pac-12 now dead, Sanders will look to turn Colorado's fortunes around in the Big 12 this season, but the Buffaloes sit near the bottom of the Big 12 Championship odds. Despite the poor record in his first season with the team, he was not at fault as he threw for 3,230 yards and added 31 total touchdowns.

It's pretty clear Sanders is among the most talented quarterbacks returning in 2024, but will the rest of the roster be good enough for him to compete for the Heisman Trophy?

How to bet on the Heisman Trophy

Betting on the Heisman Trophy this early in the process can be tough, especially this season where there's no clear stat-stuffing quarterback and there's been so much movement via the transfer portal and coaching carousel.

It's important to remember that when identifying who to bet on for the Heisman, you take into consideration that only two non-quarterbacks have won the award since 2010 (Derrick Henry, DeVonta Smith). Looking at which brand-name QB has the most returning production around them can help narrow down options.

Another factor is finding a quarterback with first-round NFL draft buzz. Last year's Heisman winner Jayden Daniels was selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, with 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams going No. 1. Those two joined eight other Heisman-winning QBs since 2010 to go within the first two picks of the draft and made it 12-for-12 on Heisman winning QBs since 2010 going in the first round. Sanders, Beck, and Ewers sit atop the 2025 NFL Draft odds.

While being on a championship contending team only helps a Heisman contenders resume, it's not necessarily a must. Both Daniels and Williams missed the college football playoff in their Heisman-winning season. However, with the expansion to a 12-team playoff, it's likely being in the playoff will be a prerequisite for winning this award.

Understanding Heisman Trophy odds

When looking at Heisman odds listed at various sportsbooks, most will list them in the American format (as we have). In this format, a lower number means the player has shorter odds, and therefore is more likely to win the award in the eyes of the sportsbook. For example, if Georgia's Carson Beck has odds as short as +750, his odds are shorter than Colorado's Shedeur Sanders at +4000.

The +750 odds mean there's an 11.76% probability Beck wins the award while Sanders' +4000 odds mean there's just a 2.44% probability he'll win the Heisman. But because there's a longer shot at Sanders winning it, a $10 wager on those odds would lead to a $400 profit if he were to win. That same $10 bet on Beck would give you a $75 profit if he were to win the Heisman.

Some books prefer to list the odds differently, with decimal odds being the most popular after American odds. If that's the case, you can use our odds calculator to convert them to the odds type of your choice.
